Caprese Appetizers

May 6, 2011

So here’s an idea for a “fancy” appetizer thats really easy to make and it’s soooo good! I saw this exact recipe on a blog a little while back and I can’t seem to re-locate it. So thank you- who ever you are- for posting this great idea! I give you full credit! It’s made from only  3 ingredients (if you don’t count the toothpicks)! It can be tedious if you are making a lot, but it’s so worth it!

Caprese Appetizers

  • Fresh mozzarella balls (also known as bocconcini)
  • Fresh basil leaves
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Toothpicks

To Do:

  • Slice the cherry tomatoes in half
  • Stick one half though a toothpick, then wrap a mozzarella ball in a basil leaf, stick that through the toothpick too.
  • Finish it off with the other half of the tomato and Viola!!

Note: I used plain mozzarella balls for mine, but I bet that marinated ones would be SO much better. They tend to be a little expensive, but when you just are just feeling a little fancy, I say just go for it.

Thanks, great ideas, I’m taking some notes. Can you provide some more information about the calories?

Certainly! One bocconcini is about 60 calories and the tomato is about 1. It’s a tasty healthy snack, as long as you don’t eat too many :)

Thanks! Your pictures provided some great late night inspiration. I was able to salvage my Bocconcini slivers and top up the cherry tomatoes with balsamic, pesto then mint garnish!
