This meaty Portobello Mushroom burger puts regular burgers to shame! Not only is the flavor amazing, but it’s super healthy too! It’s rounded shaped makes it like a giant bowl where you can pile the burger toppings on and they don’t fall out! Genius I tell you!
Things sure have been busy for us here! We just moved into a new place last weekend and we are slowly settling in. It’s nice to finally sit down and eat a delicious meal, like this burger! I am super excited because our new place has a fig, orange, apple and TWO avocado trees!! The fruits are getting close to ripe so watch out for some awesome recipes in the near future! 😀
Have no fear about making a fancy portobello mushroom burger if you have never made one before (this was my first one too)! It’s actually a lot easier than you think. You just marinate the portobello mushroom then broil, bake, or grill it!
Portobello Mushroom Burger
- 2 Large portobello mushroom caps
- Your favorite burger components like a quality wheat bun, pepper-jack or mozzarella cheese, onions, tomatoes, butter lettuce
For the marinade:
- Olive oil
- Balsamic vinaigrette
- Fresh ground pepper
Wash the mushroom caps well and remove any stems.
Marinate the mushrooms in the above ingredients for about 20 minutes. Just eyeball the ingredients to make the marinade. Put enough of the ingredients to cover the bottom of a glass dish then place the mushrooms in the dish and turn them over every once in a while, or just simply put everything in a Ziploc bag.
Cook the portobello mushrooms in the broiler for about 20 minutes, turning them halfway through. You can also grill them on your outdoor BBQ, which is what I definitely plan on doing next time!
Once you take them off of the heat, face the caps upside down and fill the mushroom bowl with cheese and grilled onions. It will get all melty and delicious!
Toast the wheat bun and add your other favorite burger toppings. YUM!
