Fire Roasted Corn

Ever thought of what might happen if you placed your corn cobs right on the coals, rather than the grill? Maybe not, but  that thought has crossed my mind, so I decided to try it. And let me tell you- EPIC SUCCESS!

The following pictures were taken on my camera phone a couple of weekends ago when I went camping in Joshua Tree National Park with a bunch of friends. We had a fire pit/grill with both a wood fire and coals going. We made sooo much food! People were cooking steaks and veggies and chicken sausages… The grill was already full of so many goodies that we decided to place the corn right on the coals.

It turned out DELICIOUS.

I have to share this with you.

Fire Roasted Corn

Here’s what you do:

– Get some corn, leave the husks on, and just place them directly on the hot coals.
– Turn them with long BBQ tongs every so often.
– Cook them until they turn black like pictures below.
– Don’t be afraid of burning them, the husks mostly protect the corn and the blackend parts taste really good.
(They actually cook a lot faster this way than if you wrapped them in foil and cooked them on the grill)
– When the husks are burnt to a crisp- remove  from the coals, peel off the remaining husks, and season with some salt and pepper.

If you go camping this summer or if you throw a BBQ in your back yard, I highly recommend preparing your corn this way. They cook faster, taste better.. need I say more? You will impress your friends and I predict you will never go back to your old way of grilling corn. :)

Enjoy!
